Packing light makes travel so much more enjoyable and opens possibilities not available when I’m overwhelmed with stuff. Also, carry-on only luggage eliminates one source of stress – no chance for lost luggage. Packing light also saves money, I can take a bus or subway and skip the taxi.
Yes, I agree that packing light is a much better way to travel! However, it is a constant juggle while packing for a toddler. I can honestly say, “less is better” even with kids. It’s amazing how babies and kids can be entertained with simple kitchen supplies like wooden spoons or plastic measuring cups.
When I arrived in Thailand 2 years ago I was on the last leg of an around the world journey with my best friend. We’d spent time all over Europe, Africa and Nepal, each place more amazing then the last. Upon arriving in Bangkok we found out the airline had ‘lost’ our luggage. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise, we spent the final month of our trip hopping from beach to beach with nothing but a few pairs of board shorts, some tank tops and a tooth brush. Simple, liberating amazing!
Packing light is fine when you are travelling in summer or in a warm climate but having just spent 8 weeks in Germany I had to buy clothes because I was travelling too light. Thankfully there are thrift shops everywhere, no need to buy new things
you miss the point. packing light means being open to buying the clothes that you need at a destination rather than packing for every eventuation. And giving away clothes you no longer need.
another option in the pack light view is give/gift your end of trip stuff to someone less fortunate before leaving thus leaving a little room for local ware, ( is souvenier /memento ) from foreign land. Hiking boots etc to someone who has no shoes are possibly a treasure.
I pack much like Steve this can work for a woman just fine. When pckniag for our honeymoon 27 years ago and my first trip to Europe my soon-to-be-husband said basically, you pack it, you carry it . That cured me fast! We have traveled very light ever since. It’s doable one just needs a little bit of discipline. Of course the side effect is that I look to be wearing the largely the same things in all my travel photos lol
Fully agree.I even recommend carrying a cake of detergent or powder so that there is scope for washing urgent items,undergarments,T shirt etc and save money as well as hassle of finding laundry.Fine terry wool trusers have proved me valuable as comfortable and lightweight pants,easy to wash and dry too.
